Long ass post about drunken hook ups.
We got a PM a couple of days ago that I was unable to answer due to technical problems…but now I’m answering it. I am also going to RANT…so get ready.
“What if both people are drunk?”
If both partners are drunk then you are taking a huge gamble in engaging in sexual activity. That’s really all I can say. I know for a fact that different states have different laws in regards to sexual activity while under the influence…so I can’t speak on definite legal terms. I do know that where I live, in DC, it is illegal to have sex with a person who is drunk. Plain and simple. They are simply considered incapable of giving consent (the exact same way how a minor is legally unable to give consent). It might be different where you live. It might be the same. But that’s legally.
You don’t want to have drunken black out sex. When you’re under the influence like that, you just aren’t in a place to be making such large decisions; your decision is influenced, clouded and swayed by a drug. You want to be able to look at your partner and trust that they ACTUALLY REALLY want to have sex with you, and vice versa. That is really not something you can do fucked up. You know?
In regards to sexual violence education, this is why it’s also important to change the focus from “if you get drunk be careful because you might get sexually assaulted” to “if you get too drunk be careful because you might sexually assault someone”. Because like…in the current focus…when we think of date rape we imagine the skeezy, but completely sober dudes who basically prey on drunk women (which happens). In this scenario people can immediately point out the crime, the perpetrator, and most (hopefully) manage to not victim blame. But the confusion comes when both partners are drunk. Nobody wants to accidentally rape someone…so it’s best to avoid that situation at all costs.
SO…tl;dr…all I really have to say is…go back home with your friends if you find yourself too drunk one night. You really don’t want to risk it.
