A COURT has scrapped the conviction of a man accused of raping a woman who had passed out drunk, because he might have thought she wanted sex.

This is despite evidence that the woman had twice rejected his advances before falling unconscious.

The Court of Appeal set aside Tomas Getachew’s rape conviction and ordered a fresh trial because jurors were not told to consider that he might have believed he had the woman’s consent.

Can I just be fucking angry about this okay?
This just adds to the victim blaming and shaming that is rampant within our society.
And I’m not even going to go into how this does not help women have confidence in the system and feel that they are supported if they report sexual assaults. That’s if they do.  

This is horrible. This is everything we are fighting against.

That poor, poor woman.. there has to be a way we can help her, even if it’s just showing our support for her.
